Jay-Z Prevents Man From Recording Beyoncé at Diddy's 50th Birthday Party - Oprah Mag

  • At Diddy's 50th birthday party over the weekend, Beyoncé was dancing with Kelly Rowland and rapper Saweetie when her husband Jay-Z was filmed snatching away a man's phone.
  • It's not 100% clear whether the man was actually trying to film or take photos of Beyoncé—but Jay-Z took no chances.

Recently, the rapper and entrepreneur Sean "P. Diddy" Combs turned the big 5-0—and in true Diddy fashion, he threw an epic 50th birthday party with every celebrity you can think of on the guest list–including Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

From all of the photos that have emerged in the days following the epic party, it's clear the stars came dressed to the nines and ready to party. But while most of the attendees seemed to be dancing, drinking, mingling, and minding their own business, Queen Bey's presence at the party seemed to inspire one partygoer to attempt a stealthy picture or video.

Unfortunately, however, for the man trying to get some celebrity content, Jay-Z immediately snatched the phone out of his hand, preventing the guy from getting any footage of Beyoncé. The man in question can be seen putting up his hand—showing he didn't mean any harm—but it's unclear if or when he got his phone back from Jay-Z.

Given the fact that the iconic couple is fiercely protective of their family and their privacy, it's no surprise Jay-Z wasn't willing to take any chances of having unapproved photos or videos of his wife floating around the internet.

And in case you're wondering, yes, there is an approved photo from the three stars who were dancing together before the phone snatching incident occurred:

Beyoncé even posted pictures on Instagram showing off the dress, makeup, and jewelry that she wore to the party:

Diddy also had a photographer on hand to take official portrait photos of all his famous friends. Stunning photos of the attendees–including Lizzo, Cardi B and Offset, Snoop Dogg, a reunion of Jay-Z and Kanye West, and more–have been shared on social media:

Despite the phone snatching incident, it seems the party was a success. But if you ever do find yourself at a party with Bey and Jay? You might want to leave your phone out of sight.

Diddy’s 50th Birthday Party Brings Out Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and His New Kerry James Marshall Painting - Vanity Fair

Among the suite of music and business titles that Sean "Diddy" Combs has occupied since founding Bad Boy Records in 1993, he's maintained a related gig as a consummate impresario and party host. From 1998 to 2009, his annual 4th of July White Party was the stuff of Hamptons (and then St. Tropez, and then Beverly Hills) myth: an impeccably observed dress code and an aptly fin de siècle guest list. That's to say nothing of his birthday parties, like the 1998 Black and White Ball or the 2009 one, where the Truman Capote comparisons flowed freely.

The White Party may have been relegated to the province of oral histories and moodboards, but Combs has never strayed from those instincts for celebratory spectacle. On Saturday night, he held his 50th birthday at his Beverly Hills mansion in the company of a range of music, entertainment, and business guests, including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, Pharrell, Jimmy Iovine, Naomi Osaka, Cardi B, Offset, Lizzo, Janelle Monáe, Nelly, Kate Beckinsale, Snoop Dogg, Ted Sarandos, Queen Latifah, Post Malone, Regina King, Lauren London, Jaden Smith, and Jack Dorsey. They'd been invited by Naomi Campbell, also in attendance, or at least the sound of her. The invitation was set to a voiceover in which she proclaimed "there ain't no party like a Diddy party" and laid three groundrules: dance or don't come, black tie means black tie, project "good vibrations." Jay-Z, West, Kardashian, and more sat for Carlos "Kaito" Araujo's Vanity Fair portrait studio. Along with Combs' children, Usher and Lil' Kim took the stage to raise a glass to the host.
