A Sweet Pastry in Paris by Zara

7/11 by Beyonce

Zara had an epic sale which I mostly missed out on - but, luckily I managed to pick up one stretchy bodysuit and two quirky perfumes …

"A Sweet Pastry in Paris" (ASPIP) is a lemon crumble buttery infusion of sweet powdered sugar amidst a vanilla sky of scrumptious fluffy clouds. It's an airy gourmand that stays hinged to the hip of its lemon soul, as it oozes caramel lollipops and pretty boutique ribbons. This scent smells like a fancy patisserie at its finest hour - but - at its worst, you might just mistake it for a mouldy lemon souring in the corner of a barely alive East End (no offence) café as Stacey-Anns strong perfume wafts onto your dry Belgian-Buns.

Needless to say, my initial impressions was not one of immediate joy. I guess I've always had a tough time with lemons, and the ferocity of the obvious lemon note is strong enough to blowoff, even the tightest of socks on those who are neutral to lemon fragrances.

Forget the timid whispering lemon in D&G Light Blue, the lemon in this perfume comes complete with its own set of boxing gloves to quicken your decision. Which side do you take? ...  If you enjoy lemons scents then this may indeed be a must-try - yet, I can't say that it gives off the freshest zing.

Meaning that this lemon fragrance is not your typical clean, airy lemon that will make you think of white walls and modern architectural buildings. This lemon fragrance is a sudsy lemon, the bath n' bubbles, with the vanilla candle at the side, and rule-breaking edibles in the lavatory just because you feel like it -  kind of lemon.

Normally, lemon fragrances are more "thinking" fragrances, more logical, more routine and perhaps analytical - but not this. This perfume is purely for the senses - it feels, it moulds with the skin, and rises to a rich intensity as it seeks to warm on you, and it will - if - you give it a chance.

It reminds me of - Lira by Xerjoff but, Lira is creamier and the lemon/citrus is not nearly as acrid/harsh. I can smell why ASPIP is polarizing but, Lira is more complex and softer - so if you're after a less dramatic opening with your scents, and don't want to wait for them to calm down on your skin - Lira is the easier one to wear.
My Initial Impression -  "Oh no!" - I'm not a lemon fan per se and this fragrance came across very lemony especially in the beginning.
Current Thoughts - Hmm ... I like it, especially when it dries down. This perfume (for me) is best worn on the skin, and perhaps its the type of fragrance which really chooses its owner *purrs. After a few false starts - I was ready to throw in the fragrance towel of defeat, but then I decided to let it sink deep into my skin, and as I went about more rigorous errands (than laying on a sofa), it began to bare its sweet, delectable, and scrumptiously maddening soul to me ... Now, I think this is a dangerous scent - a scent that just might confuse me to be a scrumptiously delectable baked good, ready to be devoured by earthly passionate pleasures ... Hmm, not bad for £7.99.

Any Thoughts?

What's your fav gourmand?
