5.7 Million Dollar Black Diamond Dress

 

     Yes, it's true.  British designer Debbie Wingham debuted this black diamond-studded dress recently during Ukraine Fashion Week.  The dress is adorned with 50 two-carat black diamonds and weighs 29 pounds!  The price tag is just as heavy:  $5.7 million.  Half of the diamonds line the peplum of the dress while the other half are on the shoulder shrug.  The rest of the embellishment consists of fine beading and delicate white diamonds set in white gold with chainmail detailing.  Pictured below with a model, Wingham sewed the 5.7 million dollar dress herself and it took her six months to complete.

     Wingham says that the dress was inspired by the Fashion House Chanel and that she envisioned Audrey Hepburn wearing the elegant creation.  Her designs have been worn by many celebrities, including Kate Winslet and Hilary Swank.  Maybe we will see one of them wearing the black diamond dress.
